TKM Institute of Management, Kollam, in association with California State University San Bernardino conducted a three day workshop on ‘Innovative learning methodology ‘ for management faculty from 9-04-2012 to 11-04-2012. The resource person for the programme was Dr.C.E.Tapie Rohm Jr., Ph.D., F.I.I.M.A, Professor, Information and Decision Science at California State University San Bernardino. Mr.Tapie is an internationally and nationally recognized educator, consultant, author, entrepreneur and businessman. He is in demand as a motivational and key note speaker and has presented over 1,000 lectures and seminars. He has written 14 books, published 62 articles in professional, referred journals, and presented over 1, 00 professional papers. He also has been a CEO, CFO, and CIO of US based firms , and has acted as a consultant to larger firms as IBM, Westinghouse, Mead, Gannet, and governmental agencies like US Federal Department of Defense, US Department of Federal Highways, the State of California- Department of Justice etc. The three day workshop was intended to expose educators to the changing global scenario, and using information technology as a leveraging tool for innovative learning. Mr.Tapie stressed upon the changing trends in technology, its implication in the business scenario and need for management teachers to keep up with those changes. The changing role of teachers from that of an instructor to a facilitator, and new model wherein teacher gets value added by using technology were also touched upon. Teacher should focus on three principles ‘ Instruct- Inspire- Promise’ as told by Mr.Tapie. He showed the teachers the usage of information technology related tools such as online cases, blogs, and social networking sites for innovative learning. The sessions also included hands on exercises where the teachers were asked to use documented innovations through ‘TED’ , Blackboard, Wiki space, Screencast-O-Matic . The workshop has been useful in empowering the participants in the use of technology tools for training management graduates.
